Spiritual Care Services

Premier Health spiritual care chaplains are members of the health care team and are available to help support your patients with cancer, regardless of their faith tradition.   Here's how they can help your patients.

A cancer diagnosis can test a patient's emotional and spiritual strength and create stress for them and their loved ones. Premier Health chaplains are available to help support patients through these challenges.

Chaplains are here for patients and their families while they’re receiving inpatient care or outpatient treatment, or if they’re participating in a Premier Health support group. Chaplains serve people of all faiths and backgrounds, including those without a particular faith tradition.

Chaplains listen with compassion as patients and their loved ones sort through the emotions, concerns, and uncertainties that come with a cancer diagnosis. Chaplains don't tell a patient what he or she should do, think, or feel. Rather, they help patients process their thoughts and feelings and examine their priorities so they can decide what is best for them. Chaplains help patients draw upon their own strengths so they can get through this difficult time.

A patient may want to identify religious or spiritual practices they and their family will find helpful. Depending upon their wishes and desires, chaplain support might include prayer, helping the patient connect or reconnect with a church or faith community, making arrangements for a patient to receive sacraments such as confession or communion, providing inspirational or devotional resources, or helping a patient find a support group.

If a patient primarily wants someone to listen, chaplains can be a resource as the patient asks himself or herself questions such as "Why is all this happening to me?  What am I supposed to learn from this? How is my relationship with God or my Higher Power?  Do I have relationships with others that I need to work on or mend?"

Chaplains can also teach patients relaxation exercises, guided imagery exercises, or offer other stress management tools to help them cope.

In all cases, the chaplains at Premier Health are ready to offer whatever spiritual support a patient needs. Please contact us at:
